TIRUNELVELI: Poongothai Aladi Aruna, Minister for Social Welfare, distributed free house site pattas worth Rs. 3 lakh to 59 persons at a function held at Vaagaikulam near Maanur on Tuesday. She said students would be getting two eggs a week as part of noon meal scheme from July 15, the birthday of former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj. Collector G. Prakash said petitions being received from the public would be carefully scrutinised and a right decision taken within the shortest possible time. The Minister and the Collector visited East Pillaiyarkulam to meet the people, who lost their houses in the recent fire accident. Later addressing a review meeting held at the Collectorate, Dr. Poongothai said officials should monitor mini-bus routes closely and take corrective measures immediately whenever the route permits were violated. Steps had been taken to procure eggs for the noon meal scheme from poultry farms run by self-help groups. She asked officials to install hoardings at vantage points to tell the people about the welfare schemes being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare. Prakash, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, and P. Ponniah, Project Officer, Women Development, participated.
