MCD offices to remain closed today

NEW DELHI: All offices, dispensaries, medical institutions and Out-Patient Departments (OPD) of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) will remain closed on Friday on account of the 400th year of martyrdom of Guru Arjun Dev. However, emergency services at the hospitals will function as usual.

New DJB scheme launched

NEW DELHI: Delhi Jal Board started its "No Profit No Loss" scheme of replacing consumers' corroded or rusted pipelines with medium density polyethylene pipes on Thursday.

Under the scheme, consumers can apply to the area executive engineer in the prescribed application form available free-of-cost at his office on all working days. A single-window service has also been provided for faster processing of applications.

Seminar on building industry organised

NEW DELHI: "Engineers and builders have the onerous responsibility of improving the work environment to achieve higher productivity and desired quality," Delhi Lieutenant-Governor B.L. Joshi said here on Thursday.

Speaking at a seminar on "Human Resource Management in Building Industry" organised by the Indian Building Congress, Mr. Joshi said: "The construction industry has a great potential for employment generation. The training of construction workers is very vital to the economy and there is an urgent need to set standards for producing world-class technocrats and management executives in this field."

He also released a souvenir and gave away awards for excellence.

NCC team returns from Singapore

NEW DELHI: Air Vice-Marshal Pravesh Kumar on Thursday welcomed a National Cadet Corps delegation that returned here from Singapore recently. The delegation, comprising two officers and nine cadets, had visited Singapore under the aegis of the International Youth Exchange Programme.

The NCC cadets participated in various activities there including camping, weapons firing, adventure activities and cultural presentations. They also visited places of historic significance like Changi Chapel, Singapore National Museum and Merlion Park.

NDMC workshop for children

NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council's month-long summer workshop for children will end with Kuchipudi and Kathak dance recitals at Talkatora Garden here on Saturday. A drama titled "Inspector Matadin Chand Pe" will also be staged.

NDMC had organised the workshop to acquaint children with Indian culture and to inculcate an interest in art in them.
