Cusat orders probe into allegation

KOCHI: The Cochin University of Science and Technology has decided to conduct a detailed inquiry into an allegation that a B.Tech student gained admission to the university without appearing for the Common Admission Test (CAT). A Syndicate sub-committee will probe the case and submit its report. A Syndicate meeting to be held on June 24 will take further action based on the recommendations made by the panel. — Staff Reporter

Inquiry commission appointed

KOCHI: The Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit has appointed an inquiry commission to probe allegations that a section of the teachers had discriminated against research scholars belonging to the backward communities. Syndicate member K. Sivarajan will head the commission.

The decision to appoint a commission was taken on the basis of a complaint filed by C.G. Rajeshkumar, convener of Research Scholars Association. — Staff Reporter

Twelve arrested

Kochi: Twelve persons were arrested on charges of immoral activities from three massage centres in the city on Thursday. The police said that the five centres from which people were arrested in raids over the last two days belonged to the same person. — Staff Reporter

Killed in accident

KOCHI: Daisamma Thomas, 49, of Thevaraparambil House, Valachira, Kaduthuruthy, Kottayam, died in an accident at Vyttila when a tempo van hit the scooter on which she was travelling with her husband, George. The accident occurred around 1 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Dak adalat on June 29

Kochi: A divisional-level dak adalat of the Ernakulam Postal Division will be held on June 29 at 2.30 p.m. at the office of the Senior Superintendent of Post Offices here. Complaints relating to postal services in the division can be raised at the adalat. Complaints should reach Thankachan George, Inspector Posts (Public Grievances), Ernakulam Division, Kochi - 682 301 before June 20 in an envelope superscribed dak adalat. — Staff Reporter

Date extended

Kochi: Indira Gandhi National Open University has extended the date for applying for the Management Entrance Test (OPENMAT) up to June 30. The test will be held on August 20 at select centres in the State, which are: IMG Thiruvananthapuram; S.H. College, Thevara, Kochi; Sree Kerala Varma College, Thrissur, and JDT Islam, Kozhikode. — Staff Reporter
