MADURAI: "The Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) is keen to generate only employable youth and in that process the institution is launching several job-oriented courses that will facilitate immediate placements", P. Maruthamuthu, Vice-Chancellor, said here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the MKU Learning Centre at Padmarajam College of Management in Goripalayam in the city, he said that any academic programme or course should take care of job prospects and `the university is starting new courses in such a way that they would lead to employment'. Emphasising that today's students have a lot of opportunities, Dr. Maruthamuthu said that diversification was essential in education too and only then employability could be ensured for the candidates. The Vice-Chancellor formally launched the BBA (Industry Integrated) course at the learning centre and said that the students would be provided with hands-on training as part of the course and it would help in industries `absorbing' qualified candidates after the completion of the course. Stating that there was no limit for learning and students should be keen to acquire more knowledge, Dr. Maruthamuthu said that the Madurai Kamaraj University had indeed crossed several milestones in the past four decades `and the credit goes to the former vice-chancellors who led the university on the path of growth'.
Enrolment picking up
PR. Athappan, Dean (Industrial Consultancy), MKU, in his keynote address, said that distance education was a great opportunity for students and enrolment was picking up in recent years. The Principal of Madurai Institute of Social Sciences, P.N. Narayana Raja, stressed on developing soft skills/communication ability among students to make themselves employable. N. Sudakaran, Chairman of Madurai Branch of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), spoke. Earlier, speaking about the new course, PA. Balan, Secretary of Padmarajam College of Management, said the BBA (industry integrated) programme is a regular course of 3-years duration and admissions would begin in the last week of this month.
