Welcome shower

MADURAI: The city experienced a welcome shower on Thursday evening gave a respite to the residents from the scorching heat. The rain, accompanied by thunder and lightning, lasted for nearly 30 minutes.

The water level in the Periyar dam stood at 120 feet with an inflow of 400 cusecs and a discharge of 1075 cusecs. The level in the Vaigai dam was 54.20 feet with an inflow of 543 cusecs and a discharge of 1300 cusecs. The combined Periyar credit stood at 4654 mcft. Andipatti (Madurai district) recorded a rainfall of 4 mm, followed by Sattaiyar dam - 1 mm.

College reopens today

Classes for all first year M.A. and M.Sc. students of Thiagarajar College will commence on June 16, according to a press release from the Principal, M. Arunagiri.

Power shutdown

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural University has extended the last date for applying to various under-graduate programmes up to June 22.

K. Ramamoorthy, Dean, Agricultural College and Research Institute (ACRI), said in a press release that the university offers UG courses in agriculture, horticulture, forestry, home science, agricultural engineering, food process and engineering, energy and environmental engineering, bio-informatics and agricultural biotechnology.

Seats are available under self-financing scheme also, the release said. Eligible candidates can submit filed in applications on or before June 22. More information about the courses can be had from the ACRI on phone: 0452-2422956. — Staff Reporter
