MBA student commits suicide

New Delhi: A 23-year old management student, son of an Intelligence Bureau official, committed suicide in a South-West Delhi locality on Thursday after he failed to perform well in his annual examination, police said. Abhishek, son of IB official M. Kakoti, was found hanging from the ceiling of his room in the posh Vasant Vihar area. He was a student of Indian Institute of Planning and Management.

The police have recovered a suicide note in which he has said that he was taking this extreme step because he fared poorly in the semester examination.

Woman jumps into canal

New Delhi: A man in her late twenties on Thursday jumped into a canal in south Delhi, police said. Twenty-eight-year-old Rosy Begum of Orissa jumped into the swift and muddy waters of Agra Canal in Mithapur Chowk near Badarpur, they said. A resident of Sourabh Vihar, Rosy's husband is employed with a foam factory and they have a four-month old son.

Two held with arms

New Delhi: Delhi Police have arrested two men in their twenties under the Arms Act. Twenty-six-year-old Mohd Aslam was arrested near Shyam Lal College in Shahdara area in north-east Delhi on Wednesday, and one loaded country-made pistol was recovered from his possession, the Delhi Police said in a press statement here on Thursday. In a separate case, police caught 24-year-old Hakim, also in possession of a loaded country-made pistol, while conducting a check on Wazirabad Road in north-east Delhi, the police said.

Minor raped

New Delhi: A 15-year-old girl was raped in a North Delhi area allegedly by her landlord's son, police said on Thursday. The victim, a resident of Sultanpuri, was allegedly raped by Raju in the early hours of the day when her parents were at work, police sources said.

She and her parents were tenants at the house owned by the parents of the accused. The victim informed her parents of the incident when they returned home this morning, following which a case was registered with the Sultanpuri Police Station and the accused was arrested.

Suspended for fraud

NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi on Thursday suspended a deputy health officer who allegedly committed a fraud in sale and purchase of Ayurvedic medicines. It also ordered a vigilance inquiry against another health officer for his alleged involvement in the same case.

Municipal Commissioner A.K. Nigam ordered the suspension of Deputy Health Officer (Ayurved) V.P. Kanoji for clearing fake bills and taking payments. MCD gives free Ayurvedic medicines to its employees and pensioners from its health centre at Town Hall.

However, in connivance with other employees posted there, Mr. Kanoji allegedly cleared fake bills of sale and purchase of medicines. The Vigilance Department probe purportedly revealed how Rs.15,000 worth of medicines was purchased daily on several occasions from four shops situated in Chandni Chowk. A pharmacist who complained about these irregularities was removed by Mr. Kanoji.

Speaking at the Standing Committee meeting, Mr. Nigam said the entire case was being thoroughly probed and those found guilt would be severely penalised.

Standing Committee Chairman Jai Kishan Sharma said the Central Bureau of Investigation had already carried out a probe into Mr. Kanoji's involvement in some other scams.
