BIS certification for sangha

Khadi gramodyog sangha can now make the Tricolour in eight sizes


  • National Flag Production Centre is manufacturing 300 national flags of various sizes a day
  • Federation plans to manufacture flags worth Rs. 25 lakh by August 15
  • It was set up with financial assistance from KVIC, Mumbai

    HUBLI: The Karnataka Khadi Gramodyog Samyukta Sangha (Federation) of Hubli has received Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certification for producing the Indian national flag of eight sizes.

    Addressing presspersons here on Friday, sangha president B.B. Patil and secretary S.V. Somanatti said the federation planned to manufacture the Tricolour of eight different sizes worth Rs. 25 lakh by August 15.

    It plans to make national flags worth Rs. 30 lakh to Rs. 40 lakh by January 26. Accordingly, recruitments will be made and the production would be speeded up, they said.

    With the certification from the BIS, the sangha could now produce table flag (6x4 inches), car flags (9x6 inches), air flags (1.5x1 feet), and flags of sizes 3x2 feet, 4.5x3, 6x4, 9x6 and 12x8 feet, they said.

    Mr. Patil said the National Flag Production Centre on premises of the sangha at Bengeri in Hubli was set up with financial assistance from the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC), Mumbai.

    The project cost was Rs. 51.10 lakh, of which Rs. 23 lakh was released in the first phase and accordingly work was completed. Now the KVIC had released Rs. 28 lakh for the second phase work to its Bangalore office. In the second phase, installation of the dyeing machinery would be taken up, for which tenders would be floated shortly, Mr Patil said. The centre was producing 300 national flags of various sizes a day, which would be increased to 5,000 with the recruitment of some more people and installation of new machinery, Mr. Somanatti said.
