PMC announces nominees for local body elections

Party is going it alone, after breaking with AIADMK alliance

Pondicherry: The Puduchery Munnetra Congress (PMC) has released its list of candidates for the municipal and panchayat elections starting June 24.

Party founder P. Kannan released the names of the candidates and the wards they would contest here on Friday.

The list was confirmation of the candidatures of the nominees who had filed their papers before the last day of nominations.

(PMC is contesting the civic polls alone, after quitting the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance following the Assembly elections. The party said it quit the alliance because of `certain experiences and also in keeping with the expectation of the party cadres and local leaders that the party contest the civic elections on its own').

The PMC nominee for the chairperson's post of the Pondicherry Municipal council is Renuka Appadurai, the former Pondicherry Education Minister. (Mrs. Appadurai quit the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Wednesday minutes before she filed her papers as the PMC candidate).

The PMC list contains names of candidates for 35 of the 42 wards in Pondicherry.

First list

S. Bhuvana alias Bhuvaneswaran is the PMC candidate for chairperson of Oulgaret Municipality. The party has fielded candidates in 18 wards in Oulgaret.

The first list of candidates for the Villianoor commune panchayat members election had names of eight candidates of the party.

(Elections to posts of chairmen, municipal councillors and members of commune panchayats will be held on party basis).
