News Analysis
"A candidate for U.N. Under Secretary-General" was the strapline of the report "Tharoor fits the bill eminently" (June 16, 2006). It is incorrect as Shashi Tharoor is presently Under Secretary-General in the United Nations. It should have read "A candidate for U.N. Secretary General". In the same report, the paragraph "South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiat Sathirathai, Sri Lankan diplomat Jayant Dhanapala and Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong will also be contesting for this office" was wrong. The report also said Goh's views on whether he wished to be a candidate were not known. It should have been: "Other than existing Asian candidates for Secretary-General like South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-Moon, Thai Deputy Prime Minister Surakiat Sathirathai and Sri Lankan diplomat Jayant Dhanapala, another name doing the rounds is that of Singapore's Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong," as the original text said. Glenn Ford's date of birth was incorrect in "A performer of class" (Friday Review, June 16, 2006, page 1), a profile of this 90-year-old Hollywood actor. It should have been May 1, 1916, and not May 1, 1906, as published. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
