PanIIT represents over three lakh IITians spread all over the world and 5000 participants, from various countries, are expected to attend the conference. PanIIT is an organisation, covering all seven IITs in the country, and aims to establish a strong fraternity of IIT alumni and help them in proactively contributing to nation building, establishing networking opportunities and contributing to the alma mater, Mr. Desai said.

Apart from the Indian unit, individual chapters function in the US, Canada, Japan, European Union, Australia and Singapore.

The theme for this year's edition was planned after a survey conducted among IIT alumni on the concept of nation buildingThe survey showed that over 48.7 per cent of the respondents felt technology should be leveraged to address the country's problems, 40.2 per cent had wanted to create professionalism and integrity in businesses, 30.2 per cent had opted for global branding of India and 31.3 percent had suggested encouraging entrepreneurship.
