KHAMMAM: It was a day of nomination rallies in Khammam. The principal political parties - Congress, TDP, CPI(M) and CPI organised separate rallies as their candidates filed nominations. As the day was considered to be auspicious, a majority of the candidates preferred to file their papers today. A total of 180 nominations were filed for the 46 ZPTCs in the district. The Congress candidates filed nomination in a big way under the supervision of the APCC vice-president and coordination committee member Mohammad Jani. A host of party leaders from the district including MLAs, Sambhani Chandrasekhar, Vanama Venkateswar Rao, Ramreddy Venkatreddy, former MLA Younis Sultan, former Zilla Paishad chairman Chanda Lingaiah also took part in the nomination process. The CPI, which had a poll pact with the Congress also organised a rally. Led by the party senior leader Puvvada Nageswar Rao, the party workers marched from Giriprasad Bhavan to the Zilla Parishad office. The Telugu Desam Party also organised a rally from their party office to the Zilla Parishad office on the occasion. Led by the party leaders Potla Nageswar Rao, S. Venkata Veeriah, the party candidates filed nominations for 23 ZPTCs. Former MP Sode Ramaiah was among the prominent TDP nominees who filed papers. He is contesting for Kunavaram ZPTC. The CPI(M) was allotted 25 of the total 46 ZPTCs as part of understanding with the TDP. The party candidates filed papers for 23 ZPTCs. The CPI(M) also took out a big rally on the occasion.
