ELURU: C.V. Anand, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eluru range, on Friday suspended I-Town Sub Inspector N. Durga Prasad and served a memo on DSP M. Peddaiah and Circle Inspector P. Somasekhar for their alleged laxity in enforcing the election code with respect to the functioning of liquor shops. The DIG issued orders to this effect after a midnight swoop on several wine shops in I-Town area, which were found running late in the night, much beyond the prescribed time limit. The Deputy Inspector General of police caught the city police napping during the raids that lasted till 1.30 a.m. Mr Anand swung into action following complaints that there was no check on the wine shops - neither by the police nor by the excise personnel. The police sealed a dozen wine shops following instructions from the DIG for their failure to stick to the stipulated time schedule.
