He should try to curb corruption, says Chairman of United Breweries Group
|
Bangalore:
Rajya Sabha member and Chairman of United Breweries group Vijay Mallya said on Friday that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy should concentrate on urgent matters rather than spend time on the controversy over the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor project.
Addressing presspersons after the India Innovation Summit 2006, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry here, he criticised Mr. Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda for "raising objections to major infrastructure projects". Mr. Mallya said Mr. Deve Gowda allegedly tried to tarnish the image of an information technology company by calling it a real-estate firm. Such comments would affect investment flow and entrepreneurial confidence in the State, he added.
Mr. Mallya said Mr. Kumaraswamy should pay attention to reports that less than 15 per cent of funds for development of rural areas and poverty alleviation was reaching the targeted sections.
If people in important positions could reduce embezzlement of funds to 50 percent, they would be able to contribute to the nation's progress, he added.
