Interactive error correction system for passports introduced on website

The facility enables applicants to see key details to be printed on the passport

Bangalore: The Regional Passport Office, Bangalore, has introduced an interactive error correction system on its website, to reduce common errors found on passports.

The file status page ( http://nitpu2. kar.nic.in /passport/npassport.asp) provides key details that will be printed in the passport, once the file has been cleared. Applicants can track the status of their files on the website and provide feedback/corrections needed on the email address correction@dataone.in.

The requests received by the correction desk will be checked with details on the application. Any corrections will be then carried out. Regional Passport Officer P. Kumaran said: "We will try to carry out the correction on the same day the requests are received, as far as possible. The corrected details can be seen on the website only two working days after the request is made."

Applicants have been asked to make the best use of this facility. In cases where the passports have been despatched before corrections can be carried out, applicants can send their passports back for correction, with a covering letter explaining the corrections required.

The passport office has requested applicants for online registrations not to waste the available submission slots by registering and not turning up. The daily average number of slots wasted by applicants registering and not submitting their applications at the appointed time is about 60. If they need to cancel the appointment for a valid reason, they should visit the website and cancel the appointment so that another person can be allotted the slot. Those who do not keep their appointment may be penalised: they will not be allowed to register again for 10 days.

The Department of Posts is extending the Speed Post passport service to 11 more post offices in Bangalore and Channapatna. These are: Wilson Garden, C.V. Raman Nagar, Dooravaninagar, New Thippasandra, Museum Road, Yelahanka, Bangalore city, Basaveshwaranagar, Vijayanagar, Malleswaram and Channapatna.
