Karunanidhi taking "rest"
An official who is accompanying Mr. Karunanidhi told The Hindu that the Chief Minister was "under complete rest" and did not participate in any programme or meet visitors. Southern Railway to run special trains
Train no 0669 Chennai Central-Bilaspur special will leave Central at 9.10 p.m. on June 18 and reach Bilaspur at 8.30 p.m. the next day. The train will stop at Gudur, Vijayawada, Balharshah and Gondia. The composition will be one first class, five sleeper class, five general second class and two luggage-cum-brake van coaches. Train no. 0667 Chennai Central-Howrah Special will leave Central at 10.30 a.m. on June 19 and reach Howrah at 4.45 p.m. the next day. It will stop at Gudur, Nellore, Ongole, Vijayawada, Eluru, Rajamundry, Visakapatnam, Palasa, Berhampur, Khurda Road, Bhubaneshwar, Bhadrak, Balasore and Kharagpur. The composition will be eight sleeper class, three general second class and two luggage-cum--brake van coaches. One killed in road accident
According to police, Rajesh (26), who was working in the Army, was going towards Palappallam with his friend Jeni Thomas (24) from Nagercoil when a State Transport Corporation bus from the opposite direction dashed against their vehicle. Rajesh was killed on the spot and Jeni Thomas was injured critically. He was later admitted to Government Hospital.
Fatally knocked down
According to police, Kunju Nadar (70) of Thiruthuvapuram near Kalliakkavilai was trying to cross national highway at Kallikkavilai, when a tempo from the opposite direction hit him by killing him on the spot.

Woman commits suicide
Police suspected family dispute as the cause of the incident. She was rushed to the Government Headquarters Hospital, where she died on Friday. The Mangalamedu police have registered a case and are investigating.

Sand lorries seized
The Karur RDO, N. Vidhya Shankar, the Tashildars Narayanan and Subramanian, and other Revenue officials intercepted lorries at Vellaripatti, Sanapiratti, Rajapuram and Nallakumaranpatti near Karur on Thursday night. The lorries were transporting sand without valid papers. It is said that the sand had also been quarried illegally.The lorries were brought to the RDO's office.The drive would continue, said Mr. Vidhya Shankar.
Ward member lynched
Sources said that the deceased, S. Thangaraj (40) was supervising the installation of a public tap when a resident K. Velaiyan (50) objected to the tap being installed in front of his house stating that the tap would be a nuisance to him. When the ward member waived his objections aside and sought to proceed with work, Velaiyan, his son Gunasekaran (24), their relatives S. Mariappan and K. Selvam as also Velaiyan's wife Mariyayee, all allegedly lynched Thangaraj to death. While Velaiyan and Gunasekaran have been arrested, the police are on the look out for the other accused persons.

New course
A release from the college says Food Technology, which integrates Chemistry, Engineering, Biology and Nutrition, will produce graduates to meet the needs of the food processing industry. Quoting a report, it says there are three lakh jobs available annually in the country in meat processing, fish and poultry processing, food and beverage and dairy industries.
