CHENNAI: Leaders and volunteers of Dalit Panthers of India, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Tamil nationalists on Friday joined hands to demand that the Centre and the State spell out stand on Sri Lankan Tamils. At a demonstration held near the Government Guest House here, they raised slogans against the killings of Tamils in Sri Lanka and wanted the Centre and State Governments to take steps to prevent the killings. DPI general secretary Thol.Thirumavalavan, Tamil Nationalist Leader P. Nedumaran and MDMK's Malai Sathya blamed the State Government and the Centre for not helping the suffering Sri Lankan Tamils. They accused both the Governments of not having a policy on the issue. "Last month alone more than 3,000 Tamils have been forced to flee the island. How can any Tamilian keep quiet over these excesses," asked Mr.Thirumavalvan. He said that his party will organise a rally on July 8 to highlight the problems faced by Sri Lankan Tamils. Mr.Nedumaran wanted an immediate stop to the killings of Tamils in the island nation and said that it was time that the Government took concrete steps to protect Tamils there. Mr.Sathya said that the lack of a coherent policy on Sri Lanka was one of the reasons for the hardship of Tamils in the island nation.
