MADURAI: Host Latha Mathavan Polytechnic College entered the semifinals of the Chairman's Birthday Trophy State-level football tournament, for Polytechnic colleges and schools, prevailing over TVS Lakshmi MHSS 5-4, via sudden-death, at Kidaripatti, near here, on Friday. Other results: VSVN Polytechnic 2 bt St. Mary's 0; Le Chatelier 1 bt Don Bosco 0.
Senthil-Guthoose win
M. Senthil and Y. Guthoose of Pot Black Centre entered the snooker doubles' final of the Kasim Residency city open billiards and snooker tournament, defeating John Peter and Ramesh of Railway Institute 58-18, 64-25, 61-49 in Madurai on Friday. In the other semifinals, Sundar and Suresh of PBC beat Gowtham and Rakesh, also of PBC 68-54, 70-23, 46-40. Y. Guthoose entered the singles semifinals, defeating Safeer of P.B Centre 68-54, 70-20, 46-40.
Coaching for umpires
The Coimbatore DCA will conduct coaching classes for cricket umpires at the R.S. Puram Club premises in Coimbatore from June 17 to 30. BCCI all- India panel umpire, S. Lakshmanan, will be in-charge.
