Ballot boxes distributed

Nearly 18,000 people will vote today

MYSORE: Ballot boxes were distributed to poll officers for election to the Karnataka Legislative Council from the South Teachers Constituency to be held on Saturday.

Ballot boxes for polling centres in Mysore city were issued at the Mysore City Corporation while those for rural centres were issued at the Deputy Commissioner's Office on Friday.

Eleven candidates, including three rebel candidates, are in the fray. Former Deputy Director of Public Instructions Sharadamma is contesting as a Janata Dal (Secular) nominee, while Gurunanjaiah is the BJP candidate.

Gangadhar is contesting the elections on Congress ticket and former Syndicate member H.A. Venkatesh is the All India Progressive Janata Dal (AIPJD) nominee.

Nearly 18,000 voters from Mysore, Mandya, Chamarajanagar and Hassan districts will be exercising their franchise for which 34 polling booths have been set up.
