Suspend Babli works: Central water panel
Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD:
Andhra Pradesh has scored a point regarding the Babli issue. The Central Water Commission (CWC) has addressed a letter to the Maharashtra Government asking it to keep the construction of the project on hold and maintain status quo till the Central Technical Committee submits its report.
In a letter written on June 8, B. S. Ahuja, Member, CWC recalled the understanding reached between the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra at a meeting in Delhi on April 4, to suspend all works till the committee came out with its report. He asked the Maharashtra principal secretary, Water Resources, to honour this commitment.
He said the works were resumed even as the committee was winding up its second meeting on May 19. A copy of the letter was made available to the Andhra Pradesh Government on Friday, said Major Irrigation Minister P. Lakshmaiah. The letter was in response to a complaint lodged by AP Government with the CWC against resumption of construction works recently. The Minister hoped that Maharashtra would put a stop to the works at least now.
