Former Minister quits BJP, joins BSP

Allahabad: In a setback to the Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh, senior party leader and former Minister Rakesh Dhar Tripathi on Friday quit BJP and joined Bahujan Samaj Party.

Mr. Tripathi, who served as Minister during the Chief Ministership of Kalyan Singh and Rajnath Singh, joined the BSP at a function organised at the party's office here.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Tripathi said he had joined the Mayawati-led party ``with the firm belief that it was the only political group capable of bringing an end to the jungle raj prevailing in the State under the Samajwadi Party regime''.
