Patna: The Bihar Women's Commission on Friday gave singer Udit Narayan 10 more days to appear before it to explain his position on a complaint filed by a woman claiming to be his first wife after he failed to show up before the panel, complaining of ``chest pain''. ``Udit talked to me on phone and complained about chest pain and sought 15 days to come before the Commission. I accepted his prayer with (complainant) Ranjana's consent and gave him 10 days' time,'' Commission chairperson Manju Prakash told reporters. Asked from where Narayan had called her, Ms. Prakash said his lawyer Mahasweta Chatterjee had arranged the conversation over mobile phone. Hence, she did not know the origin of the call. During the last date of hearing on June 9, the Commission had given the ``fourth and last chance'' to Narayan to appear before it on June 16, and threatened that a warrant would be issued against him if he failed to do so. Asked if the singer was deliberately avoiding the Commission by not appearing before it despite repeated summons, Ms. Prakash said, ``Nobody can dare undermine the importance of the commission. I am sure Udit knows this.'' Narayan's lawyer Ms. Chatterjee, who was present, said her client was all set to appear before the Commission on Friday, but could not do so because of a health problem. ``But he will definitely appear before the Commission in the near future to tell the truth,'' she said. Ranjana Narayan had created a flutter last month by claiming to be the singer's first wife, a charge that has been denied by Narayan. -- PTI
