BJP demands Sheila's resignation

New Delhi: The Delhi BJP unit demanded the immediate resignation of state Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Friday and called for fresh elections in light of the Election Commission issuing notices to 19 MLAs allegedly occupying offices of profit.

Ms. Dikshit has no moral or Constitutional right to continue, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Harsh Vardhan said in a statement.

The Union Home Ministry did not have the courage to send the Delhi MLA Disqualification Act 2006, recently passed by the State Assembly for assent of the President in view of his refusal to sign a similar bill passed by the Parliament, it said. -- UNI
