CHENNAI: The calibration of cochlear implants to help those with partial hearing loss, emergence of newer drugs to tackle vertigo (giddiness) and management of sleep disorders will be among the topics of discussion at an international update on ENT here on Saturday. The two-day meet on the `Current status of ENT' seeks to familiarise 500 delegates including senior practitioners and young specialists on the latest developments of medicine's oldest specialities. The workshop will feature video presentations and interactive sessions. 25 international experts like Gerard M. O' Donoghue (UK) and Andrew Fishman (US) will lead the scientific sessions in various aspects of ENT care. The event is hosted by Madras ENT Research Foundation (MERF). "Perhaps no speciality has undergone as radical modality changes in a short span of two decades as ENT has and this places added responsibility on practitioners to keep abreast," said MERF Managing Director Mohan Kameswaran. However, despite fast-paced developments , the speciality is yet to branch off into sub-specialities. . MERF, which has developed a range of state-of-the-art facilities at its new premises in Raja Annamalaipuram, is ready to lead the way towards sub-specialisation, Dr. Kameswaran said.
