GUNTUR: Potential Zilla Parishad chairperson candidates from the Congress filed their nomination papers on Friday from two Scheduled Caste (General) constituencies though four Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies have been reserved for SC (Women).

Former Botany reader of Acharya Nagarjuna University Kuchipudi Vijaya filed her nomination from Kollipara ZPTC while Mekathoti Sucharita filed papers from Phirangipuram.

Wife of Grandhalaya Samithi Chairman Kuchipudi Sambasiva Rao, Ms. Vijaya was NSUI leader at ANU during her student days.

Besides, she watched politics from close quarters as wife of a Congress leader, who contested from Tadikonda Assembly constituency thrice.

She also has the backing of Duggirala MLA Gudibadi Venkata Reddy.

This political exposure, she opines, would work in her favour to win the ZPTC seat and also stake claim for the chairperson's post, which she believes would be decided by Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy after the election results are announced.

Ms. Sucharita, daughter of Dr. Nannam Anka Rao from Phirangipuram, is wife of Income Tax Additional Commissioner Mekathoti Dayasagar, who assumed office in Guntur on Friday last. A political science graduate, she appeared for the preliminaries of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC)_examination last month.

She also draws political strength from Mannava Rajakishore, unsuccessful Congress candidate from Ponnur Assembly constituency.

She criticised her detractors for trying to mislead the electorate for alleging that she belongs to the BC-C community.
