Seven injured in Congress, TDP clash

Staff Reporter

GUNTUR: Seven persons were injured when followers of the Congress were allegedly beaten by Telugu Desam Party workers at Vatticherukuru in Guntur district after the filing of nominations for MPTCs on Friday.

While two of them belonged to the TDP the remaining were Congress workers and were shifted to the Government General Hospital for treatment in the night, the police said.

The police used mild lathi-charge to disperse people in both camps as they were trading charges against each other and threw soda bottles.

The lathicharge also did not work and both sides clashed for some time and the police removed the injured to safer places.

Meanwhile, the CPI(Maoist) gave a call to all political parties to keep away from the coming panchayat polls and not to field their candidates in Gummanampadu, Remidicherla and Ravelapuram villages in the district. They came to the villages and threatened people of severe consequences if they cast their vote.
