CHENNAI: The MKB Nagar police on Thursday arrested a collection agent of a private bank on charges of harassing schoolgirls. According to the police , Udhaya (33) of Triplicane, allegedly befriended a class X student and later got introduced to a few of the girl's friends. Police said Udhaya had downloaded obscene pictures on his camera equipped phone and suspected he had taken pictures of some of the girls and used the photos to threaten some of them. On a complaint from one of the girls, police arrested him and filed cases against him under sections of IPC and Harassment of Women Act, Tamil Nadu.
Rice racket
The Tiruvottiyur police arrested five persons and seized 342 bags of rice procured from ration shops. The rice consignment was being taken to markets in Andhra Pradesh. The case has been handed over to Civil Supplies CID police for further investigation. According to the police, a lorry laden with rice was intercepted during a vehicle check in Tiruvottiyur on Friday morning. Interrogation revealed that S.Velmani (42) of Tiruvottiyur, S.Dhanraj (32) of Korukkupet and P. Thirumalai (29) of Kannadasan Nagar, had allegedly procured ration rice from people in slums and then tried to smuggle it to Andhra Pradesh. . Driver, V. Viswa Mohan (32) of Karnool and S.Ravi of Nellore in AP were arrested and cases were booked against them under the Essential Commodities Act, police added.
