Statewide Telugu Desam-CPI (M) alliance likely today

Special Correspondent

Understanding reached everywhere except Vizag and East Godavari districts

HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam and the CPI (M) are moving closer towards firming up local alliances for the coming panchayat elections all over the State.

TDP leader M. Renuka told presspersons that electoral understanding was reached between the two parties in all the districts barring Visakhapatnam and East Godavari. Discussions were going on in these two districts and a deal could be struck by Saturday. Replying to questions, she said there was no problem anywhere and the understanding was perfect. No case of any resistance at the local level had been reported so far.

Unlike in the past, the party leadership has left the decision of striking alliances, selection of candidates and ensuring their success to the local party units, she said.

The central leadership stepped in only when there was some major problem. It had already despatched publicity material to the districts.

She said TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu might not tour the districts as he had already covered over 20 districts during the last one month. He would monitor the party campaign from here.
