A course for wheelchair prescription

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: To help rehabilitation professionals properly address the needs of persons who require a wheelchair, Mobility India is organising a "Wheelchair prescription course" — a training course in partnership with Motivation, a U.K.-based organisation. The course is on till June 30.

Safe assessment

The aim of the course is to train the service provider on how to safely assess people who require a wheelchair and how to make sure they receive the right kind of aid for their needs.

"This is the first time that such a course is being offered.

We have 20 occupational therapists and rehabilitation professionals from various places, including Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe working in the disability sector, who are taking part in the course," said Roopa Thirumalai, Fundraising Manager of Mobility India.

Tailor-made

She said the course was designed to train staff working in community-based health services in low-income countries on how to assess someone for their wheelchair needs and to prescribe an appropriate wheelchair.
