Thiruvananthapuram: Noted cine artiste Aranmula Ponnamma has been selected for the Thikkurissi Foundation Award for her overall contribution to the Malayalam film world. The office-bearers of the foundation announced the awards in various sectors here on Friday. Kamala Suraiyya and Perumbadavam Sreedharan (Literature), K.N. Panikkar (Historical research), Kanayi Kunhiraman (Art and Sculpture), O.N.V. Kurup and Vishnu Narayanan Nambootiri (Malayalam poetry), K.T. Mohammed (Malayalam drama), P. Aravindakshan and Ezhachery Ramachandran (Malayalam Journalism), Soorya Krishnamoorthy (Classical arts and film society movement), Mannarakayam Baby (organisation of film societies), M.F. Thomas and T.P. Sasthamangalam (film criticism), Mannar N.P. Krishna Pillai (Astrology), Samraj (Magic), A. Ayyappan Nair (Consumer education) and Soly Idamaruku (Empowerment of rural women). The award comprises a cash prize of Rs.5,001, a statuette and a citation. `Manthrakodi,' produced by Jose Varghese and telecast on the Asianet channel was adjudged the best TV serial. `Veettamma,' aired on Kairali, was selected the best serial on women and child welfare. Both awards carry a purse of Rs.3001, a citation and a statuette. `Mahatma, Angayodu' by M.G. Sasi is the best tele-cinema while `Silence' directed by Saratchandran Wayanad (Jeevan TV) is the best documentary. The award for the best awareness film went to `Give little time, Be safe and fine,' a work on factory safety directed by Sugun. `Dilruba' bagged the best audio album award. `Kannadi' by T.N. Gopakumar was selected the best news-based programme while the award for the best news channel went to Kairali-People. Thombil Rajasekharan was adjudged the best Malayalam drama artiste and Mayyanad Rafi, the best director. The jury chaired by N.A. Karim included Pachalloor B. Rajaraman Nair, M.V. Thomas, Karyavattam Sreekantan Nair, Elamkulam Shamsuddin, N. Santhosh Chittar, Attingal Vijayakumar and K.V. Jyothilal.
