THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Local Administration Minister Paloli Mohammed Kutty on Friday asked the local bodies to dispose all pending applications and files relating to construction of buildings by August 15. This follows complaints that hundreds of applications were pending in the municipalities, corporations and town planning offices. The largest number of applications were pending in the corporations. It was attributed to the inefficiency of the `permit within a day' system. The failure to observe priority in the disposal of files had come to the Government's attention. The Minister felt that this was responsible for irregularities and corruption. He warned of stringent action against those who were responsible for any lapse in the issue of license for construction or harassed the applicants by delaying license citing lame excuses. He stated that the law enjoined the disposal of applications within 30 days. If a decision was delayed beyond that period action would be taken against those responsible for it. He added that the question of extending the `permit within a day' system, in force in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, to the other places was also under the Government's consideration.
