Captured elephant dead

Thiruvananthapuram: The rogue elephant that was captured by the Forest Department in Peppara Wild Life sanctuary last week died on Friday night. The elephant, which was apparently normal in the afternoon, collapsed in its wooden cage in the evening. At night, bouts of shivering gripped the pachyderm, which died around 9.30 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Two killed in accident

Thiruvananthapuram: Two persons were killed and another injured when the Scorpio van in which they were travelling collided with a lorry near the Kollam Collectorate in the on Friday. The vehicle was proceeding from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam. One person identified as Shimon, 32, a native of Kilimanoor, was killed on the spot while Sachin, 34, a resident of North Paravoor in Ernakulam died on the way to the Medical College Hospital (MCH). Abhiram Krishnan, 29, of Vazhayila, has been admitted to the MCH with injuries. — Staff Reporter

First rank holder accorded reception
