ERODE: An accident victim died at the Government Hospital in Kangeyam as he could not be given proper treatment because of the absence of duty doctor. According to sources, Senthilkumar (35) of Kangeyam was coming from Vellakoil on a motorcycle on Friday when a lorry hit the vehicle at Olapalayam on Kangeyam-Vellakoil main road, around 3.30 p.m. He was removed to the Government Hospital at Kangeyam. As the duty doctor was not there, no proper treatment was given to him and he died. The duty doctor was posted on Friday. As per rule he should be in the hospital at 3 p.m., but he was not there. Learnt about the incident, the public picketed the hospital. On information, the Kangeyam MLA, Vidiyal S. Sekar, also rushed to the spot. When asked about the duty doctor, hospital authorities told the MLA that the doctor left for his clinic in Vellakoil. When the MLA contacted the doctor, he was told that the doctor was busy in a surgery.
Minister informed
Mr. Sekar told mediapersons that for want of timely treatment, Senthilkumar died. He said that he had already informed about the incident to the Health Minister and also to other officials.
Inquiry held
On Saturday, the Joint Director (incharge), Erode, conducted an inquiry about the incident at the hospital.
