ALAPPUZHA: Democratic Indira Congress-Karunakaran (DIC-K) president K. Muraleedharan has alleged that the police have been converted into mere onlookers after the Left Democratic Front (LDF) Government assumed power, and the State is now witnessing rule of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) cadres. Inaugurating a leaders' meeting of the DIC(K) here on Saturday, Mr. Muraleedharan said the police were withdrawing many criminal cases registered by them against the CPI(M) leaders. He alleged that the Government was arbitrarily transferring a section of employees just because of the doubt that they were politically opposed to the LDF. Mr. Muraleedharan said Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan seemed to have forgotten his statements on the issue of probity in public life made when he was Leader of the Opposition. The Chief Minister was always saying that he was studying various issues and was reluctant to act. He said that the present Managing Director of Kerala Minerals and Metals Ltd. against whom action was taken by the previous United Democratic Front Government following allegation of corruption had been given a prestigious post by the present Government. How could a person who was termed corrupt by one Government be absolved of all charges by another Government without any reinvestigation of the charges, he asked. He said the DIC(K) would act as a strong opposition and would protect the interests of the public. DIC(K) district president M.J. Job presided over the function.
