Issue of Elector's Photo Identity Card from today

Door-to-door voter identification; photographs to be taken at home

MADURAI: In view of the by-election to the Madurai Central Assembly constituency, door-to-door voter identification drive will be launched on June 18, with plans to make sure that the entire electorate has Elector's Photo Identity Card (EPIC) and the voters' list has pictures of all voters. Every day, 10 areas will be covered simultaneously. Photographs will be taken and cards issued immediately at the voter's home itself.

Voters, whose names figure in the list but have not registered for EPIC, will also be issued cards. Also, those who have been issued EPIC but whose names have not appeared in the voters' list can show their cards and give necessary details to the official concerned when they visit their home for registration. For those who have not been issued EPIC, photographs will be taken at their home. Cards will be issued at the earliest through the bill collector.

According to a press release issued by Collector T. Udhayachandran, an identity slip will be issued to those who are out of station during the visit of officials, stating the time and place where photographs would be taken for issue of EPIC.

On June 18, photographs will be taken in the following areas:

Ward 35: North Line Streets 1 to 7, Natarajapuram Agraharam, Moongilkadai Lane, Simmakal, North Veli Street, L.N.P. Agraharam, Thaikkal First to Fifth Streets, Sachidanandam Pillai Lane, Yanaikkal, Kandasamy Pillai Street, L.N.P North, East Bhajanai Mada Streets, Tirumalairayar Padithurai, Krishna Iyengar Thoppu and Chettiar Thoppu.

Ward 37: Kambilimarathu Lane, Chellathamman Kovil Street, Vakkil New Street and North Perumal Maistry Street.

Ward 34: North Masi Street, Pechiamman Padithurai Road, Tamil Sangam Road, Muthirulappa Pandithar Lane, Govindan Chettiar Lane, Kathu Kondan Thoppu Street, Arasamarathadi Lane, Sevathiyan Kovil Lane, Abhimannan Kovil Lane, Kamatchiamman Kovil Street, Mariappan Chettiar Street, Municipal Harijan Colony and Venkatasamy Naidu Agraharam.
