HUBLI: Revenue Minister Jagadish Shettar has called upon teachers to prepare themselves for serving in rural areas. Inaugurating two classrooms built with financial assistance provided under the local area development fund at Kusugal village in Hubli taluk on Friday, he said the State Government was planning to reduce the gap between the quality of education in urban and rural areas. It had taken steps to develop infrastructure in schools in rural areas and had appointed adequate number of teachers, he said.
Permission
The Minister promised to help in getting permission for a pre-university college and an industrial training institute in Kusugal village. Mr. Shettar inaugurated the distribution of computerised ration cards and also the distribution of free uniforms and notebooks to schoolchildren. Meritorious scouts were also felicitated. Basavaraj Bommai, MLC, underscored the need for an education system that did not carry financial burden.
Teacher-centric
The present education system was teacher-centric and it should become student-centric, he felt. Mr. Bommai stressed the need for extending quality education to rural areas. S.B. Karennavar, president, Kusugal Gram Panchayat; V.M. Patil, Deputy Director of Public Instruction; S.S. Keladimath, Block Education Officer; S.S. Nagatana, Hubli tahsildar, and others were present.
