RECOGNITION: Deputy Commissioner H.V. Parshwanath presenting the `Tritiya Sopan' certificate to a Guide in Mangalore on Sunday.
MANGALORE: Scouts and Guides is an excellent movement that can play a key role in moulding students into responsible citizens, H.V. Parshwanath, Deputy Commissioner, has said. Speaking after handing over "Tritiya Sopan" certificates to Scouts and Guides at a function here on Sunday, Dr. Parshwanath said the movement founded by Baden Powell 92 years ago had grown to be an international organisation of repute.
Active
The district wing of the movement with 29,000 students from various schools was active. As part of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the movement in the district, a special building for Scouts and Guides was being built at Pilikula.
Building
The building work taken up at a cost of nearly Rs. 70 lakh was equipped to meet all training needs and would be completed soon, he said. I.V. Kairanna, District Working President and Chief Commissioner, said the Scouts and Guides movement aimed at inculcating patriotism and discipline in children and making them good leaders.
Certification
There are five levels of certification in Scouts and Guides - "Pratam Sopan", "Dwitiya Sopan", "Tritiya Sopan", "Rajya Puraskar" and "Rashtrapati Puraskar". In all, 318 Scouts and Guides from the region were honoured with "Tritiya Sopan" certificates this year, while 330 Cubs and Bulbuls were given "Tritiya Charan", and "Suvarna Pankh" certificates, respectively. Mr. Kairanna welcomed the gathering. Irene D. Kunha, District Commissioner for Guides, proposed a vote of thanks.
