Malaysian varsity delegation visits Osmania University

A four-member delegation from University of Malaysia, Sabah, Malaysia headed by Vice-Chancellor Datuk and Mohd. Noh Dalimin visited Osmania University. They called on the Vice-Chancellor and held discussions with Principals and Deans to explore possibilities for bilateral academic cooperation.

OU Vice-Chancellor Mohd. Suleman Siddqi said Osmania University was in the forefront in forging linkages with international institutions of higher learning for advancement of knowledge. Prof. Datuk sought the cooperation of Osmania University in strengthening the faculty of business and economics and in designing advanced programme in Islamic studies.

Social research

OU Arts College Principal P.L. Vishweshwer Rao stressed the need to strengthen research to aid policy making. Social research is crucial to planning and rural development in India, he felt while delivering the keynote address at the workshop on `Research methodology and report writing in social sciences.' He said new communication technologies have made research much easier and exhorted students to be more rigorous in their approach to research. Nearly 300 students and research scholars attended the workshop.

Tirupati-based Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha has released the results of the entrance test for admission into Siksha Sastri Course (B.Ed in Sanskirit) for 2006-07. The varsity's Institute of Advanced Study in Education (IASE) has announced that of the 1,393 candidates enrolled, 1,279 had taken the test, of whom 1,121 passed out successfully. .

Sri Padmavathi Women's University (SPMVV) conducted a five-day INFLIBNET Training Programme on Library Automation (ITPLA-2006) last week for the library professionals of Rayalaseema region. Resource persons spoke latest topics on Ahmedabad-based Information and Library Sciences Network (INFLIBNET), Software for University Library (SOUL), e-journals, bibliographic standards etc. at the meet.

A meeting of office-bearers of the All Universities Non-Teaching Employees Association of Andhra Pradesh was held on Andhra University campus last week. The organisation appealed to administrators to give weightage to non-teaching staff having PhD in recruitment of teachers. Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy inaugurated the meeting.
