Minister firm on shifting pig farm from Kainoor

Staff Reporter

THRISSUR: Revenue Minister K.P. Rajendran has made it clear that he has not changed his stand to shift the pig-breeding farm of the Animal Husbandry Department from Kainoor near here.

Mr. Rajendran said this here on Sunday while talking to the representatives of the Kainoor Action Council formed to campaign for shifting the farm in the wake of allegations that it was polluting the land and water sources in the area.

The action council representatives met him to hand over the letters from social critic Sukumar Azhikode to him and Animal Husbandry (AH) Minister C. Divakaran urging them to take urgent steps to shift the farm from the area.

The action council representatives, in a release here, said that the Minister said that he had suggested to Mr. Divakaran and other senior officers to set up a research centre of the Animal Husbandry Department at Kainoor.

Research centre mooted

Setting up a research centre connected to Dairy Department and a fodder farm at Kainoor will generate more employment avenues and eliminate pollution there, the Minister said.

Dr. Azhikode, who has a leading role in the campaign for shifting the pig farm, in his letters said that the hurdles created by the bureaucracy were delaying the move. He urged the Ministers to take steps to remove those hurdles at the earliest.
