State Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran (second from right) takes a look at equipment displayed at `Macme - 2006' in Chennai on Sunday.
CHENNAI: The seat matrix for this year's MBBS admissions will be known after State Health Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran meets Union Health and Family Welfare Minister Anbumani Ramadoss in New Delhi later this week. Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of the `Macme - 2006,' organised by the Department of Anaesthesiology, Madras Medical College, here on Sunday, Mr. Ramachandran said he would take up several issues concerning the State health sector at the June 21 meeting with the Union Minister. Among the pending issues was the proposal to open new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu. The issue of approval for the Theni Medical College, where the Government planned to offer 100 seats, may also be raised.
Anaesthesiologists' shortage
The Government would soon address the issue of shortage of anaesthesiologists. Nearly 100 vacancies for anaesthetists were identified this year. The organisers said an increase in the number of seats in anaesthesiology for postgraduates would help. They requested the Minister to appoint a director for the department at the MMC. Mr. Ramachandran said an official announcement on appointment of deans for five government medical colleges would be made soon. Inaugurating the sixth edition of the conference, the Minister said people could look forward to the State budget this year, as a lot of focus would be given to health, Mr. Ramachandran said.
