TNHB computerised service counters in all divisions soon

R.K. Radhakrishnan

Bid to put in place a responsive grievance redressal mechanism

  • Applications to be processed the same day
  • Time limit set for issuing replies

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Housing Board will soon open computer-aided `service centres' at its offices across the State. All grievances will be computerised and can be accessed by top Board officials. Applications detailing grievances will be received between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and processing will begin the same day.

Time limits have been fixed for giving replies, which will be sent to the address mentioned. For instance, if the case relates to issue of sale deed for schemes where the cost finalisation has been completed, the complaint/grievance should be disposed of in 30 days; intimation to allottees on the balance cost to be paid should be done in 15 days; information on unsold units, vacant apartments and request for information on survey numbers covered by land acquisition proposals of the Board should be given the same day and request for transfer of allotment should be disposed of in 45 days.

Though there are manned information counters at all its offices, most people who frequent the Board's offices have complained of poor response. A plot allottee was at the Managing Director's office last week. The Board had sent him a communication in February 2006, informing him that the plot allotted to him was cancelled in 1998. But he had paid instalments even in 2006 and the Board accepted the payments.

After some brainstorming, it was decided that a responsive grievance redressal mechanism was necessary. Board officials said training of personnel for computerised counters was in progress.
