Joint House panel to look into land grabbing

The committee has been given three months to submit its report


  • The committee will probe land grabbing in Bangalore Rural and Bangalore districts

  • Members of both Houses of the legislature during the last session had demanded a probe

    BANGALORE: A 19-member Joint House Committee headed by A.T. Ramaswamy, Janata Dal (Secular) MLA, has been constituted to probe the alleged land encroachment in Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural districts.

    A note issued by S.B. Patil, Additional Secretary, Legislative Assembly, said the committee had been given three months to submit the report.

    Members to the committee from the Legislative Assembly include R. Roshan Baig, S.S. Patil, Yogish Bhat, B. Shivaram, Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri, S. Raghu, A. Narayanaswamy, J.C. Madhuswamy, Vatal Nagaraj, Narasimha Nayak, Vinaya Kulkarni, K. N. Rajanna, Mahima Patel and G.V. Sriram Reddy.

    Members from the Legislative Council are M.P. Nadagouda, "Mukhyamantri" Chandru, V.S. Ugrappa, K.B. Munivenkata Reddy and Y.S.V. Datta.

    Members of both Houses of the State legislature had during the last session demanded a detailed probe into land grabbing in and around Bangalore.

    Land worth crores of rupees had been encroached.

    The committee would probe land encroachments in five taluks in Bangalore Urban and Bangalore Rural districts.

    Its major tasks included identification of land encroached in these taluks as on March 31, 2006; publication of details for the benefit of the public regarding survey number, village, and people and institutions involved in land grabbing; collecting information about officials and employees who indulged in land grabbing, collecting information on steps taken by the Revenue, Home, Police, Urban Development, Forests, Minor Irrigation and Law departments and the Advocate-General on the issue and recommend measures to prevent encroachments in the future, the note said.
