KOZHIKODE: The two-day 34th annual conference of the Kozhikode Division of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) Employees Union concluded here on Sunday with a call to workers to resist the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government's "anti-labour" policies that included a proposal to amend labour laws, effecting change in consumer price index without consulting trade unions and cutting down interest rates on provident fund. The two-day conference also adopted a resolution. It demanded the shelving of the move to increase Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from the present 26 per cent; reservation for women in Legislative forums; recruitment to LIC and an end to anti-labour policies followed by general insurance management in the public sector. The conference unanimously approved the report presented by general secretary P.P.Krishnan and the revenue-expenditure report presented by treasurer Roy Kurien. K.Venu Gopal, general secretary, All India Insurance Employees' Association (AIIEA); M. Kunhikrishnan, joint secretary, South Zone Insurance Employees Federation (SZIEF); P.K.Subramaniyan, vice-president, SZIEF; and Sivasubramaniam, treasurer, SZIEF were among those who spoke on the occasion. The new office-bearers were also elected at the conference. K.K.C. Pillai is the new president. M.K.Balakrishnan and T.Bindu are the vice-presidents. P.P.Krishnan (general secretary), N.P .Kasmi, M.J.Sreeram, I.K. Biju and M. Vinod (joint secretaries), Roy Kurien (treasurer) and K.Sankaranarayanan (assistant treasurer) are the other office-bearers.
