Banks surpass lending target

Lending in Kodagu district up by 39 per cent; farm sector gets a lion's share


  • As against the target of Rs. 546.75 crore, banks disbursed Rs. 587.34 crore
  • Credit plan target for 2006-07 fixed at Rs. 626.84 crore
  • Madikeri block puts up the best performance in lending

    Madikeri: Kodagu district has surpassed the annul credit plan target set for 2005-06. As against the target of Rs. 546.75 crore, banks disbursed Rs. 587.34 crore. The performance was up by 39 per cent when compared with that of the previous year.

    The credit plan target for Kodagu for 2006-07 has been fixed at Rs. 626.84 crore, A.L. Kulkarni, Assistant General Manager of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), Kodagu, said.

    He told The Hindu that the target for disbursement to the farm sector was Rs. 387.07 crore. Against this, Rs. 355.53 crore was disbursed, amounting to 92 per cent. Trade and Services and priority sector achievement was Rs. 119.67 crore as against the target of Rs. 54.53 crore, for 219 per cent performance, Mr. Kulkarni said.

    The other priority sector included lending for housing, education, transport, retail trade and business.

    The target for small-scale industries and non-farm sector was Rs. 3.91 crore and Rs. 3.19 crore was disbursed.

    In all, Rs. 478.40 crore was disbursed in the priority sector as against the target of Rs. 445.52 crore. Disbursements in the non-priority sector were high at Rs. 108.94 crore as against the target of Rs. 101.23 crore, amounting to 108 per cent achievement.

    Blocks

    The achievement by the three blocks exceeded 100 per cent with Madikeri block achieving 116 per cent, Virajpet 104 per cent and Somwarpet 101 per cent, Mr. Kulkarni said.

    Of the target of Rs. 165.51 crore fixed in the priority sector in Madikeri block, Rs. 177.33 crore was disbursed. Agriculture accounted for Rs. 110.54 crore. It fell short of the target of Rs. 141.94 crore. In the other priority sectors, the lending was Rs. 65.96 crore as against the target of Rs. 21.81 crore. Disbursement was low in the small-scale industry sector where only Rs. 81.75 lakh was given as against the target of Rs. 1.75 crore.

    In the non-priority sector in this block, Rs. 50.18 crore was disbursed as against the target of Rs. 31.54 crore. In all, Rs. 228.15 crore was lent against the target of Rs. 197.05 crore in this block.

    In Virajpet block, Rs. 189.73 crore was disbursed in the priority sector as against the target of Rs. 169.64 crore. The target of Rs. 150.96 crore for agriculture was surpassed in this block with a disbursement of Rs. 155.45 crore.

    Credit flow in the other priority sector was high at Rs. 32.46 crore as against the target of Rs. 17.27 crore. The small-scale industry was given Rs. 1.81 crore as against the target of Rs. 1.41 crore.

    The target fell short in the non-priority sector in this block as Rs. 41.69 crore was disbursed as against the target of Rs. 53.60 crore. In all, Rs. 231.42 crore was disbursed in this block while the target was Rs. 223.25 crore.

    In Somwarpet block, the disbursement was Rs. 111.33 crore as against the target of Rs. 110.36 crore. The target of Rs. 94.15 crore in the farm sector could not achieved. The sector accounted for Rs. 89.52 crore. In the other priority sector, Rs. 21.24 crore was lent while the target was Rs. 15.44 crore. Disbursements were higher in the non-priority sector in this block where Rs. 16.43 crore was lent as against the target of Rs. 16.07 crore, Mr. Kulkarni said. In all, Rs. 127.76 crore was disbursed as against the target of Rs. 126.44 crore in his block.

    Comparison

    The credit flow in 2005-06 was higher in many areas. The allocations were high for agriculture, non-priority sector and non-farm sector, Mr. Kulkarni said

    He said Rs. 478.40 crore was disbursed in these sectors vis-a-vis Rs. 309.27 crore in 2004-05. It covered minor irrigation, land development, farm mechanisation, plantation and horticulture, animal husbandry (dairy, sheep, piggery, goat developments), fisheries, wasteland development, and market yards.
