Two Maoists killed in exchange of fire

KHAMMAM:
Two naxalites of the CPI(Maoist) were killed in an encounter with the police near Marrimalla village, close to the banks of the Godavari , 25 km from Perur, around 12 noon on Sunday. A senior member of the party, not below the rank of district committee member, is suspected to be among those killed. The police recovered an AK 47 along with some ammunition at the site of the encounter.
Sources said that the district committee secretary, Jagadeesh, and a woman activist Upendra were killed in the encounter. Superintendent of Police Rajeev Kumar Meena, however, said that a special party was combing the forest area on Saturday when the two naxalites opened fire on them near Marrimala village.
The police returned the fire killing the two naxalites on the spot. The bodies are yet to be identified. The SP said that details about the incident were still awaited.
The village was located in an inaccessible forest pocket and the special party was still engaged in combing the area.
