CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Health Department has procured 40 deep freezers and 131 Ice line Refrigerators to strengthen its cold chain atthe primary health centres and community health centres to improve the implementation of immunization programme, the Heath Minister, Kartar Devi, said here on Sunday. She said that children were being protected against six preventable diseases like diphtheria, tetanus, tuberculosis, measles and poliomyelitis under maternal and child health care programme by immunizing pregnant mothers and children up to 16 years of age. The Minister added that the Pulse Polio Programme was being implemented efficiently in the State and as against 65 cases of polio reported in the country, only one case was reported in Haryana in December, 2005. One sub-national round to administer polio drops was conducted on January 15, 2006 in Gurgaon, Faridabad, Rewari, Jhajjar, Rohtak, Sonipat, Panipat, Mewat and Bhiwani districts in which 21.52 lakh children were covered. Another sub-national round was held on Februbary 26, 2006 in the same districts and again more than 21 lakh children were covered. Two National Immunization Days were observedin April and May when 38.92 lakh and 39.14 lakh children were covered respectively.
