Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar has given assent to the controversial Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar University Bill with certain conditions to be fulfilled before the university comes up at Rampur. Raj Bhawan sources said the Governor signed the Bill on Saturday and the notification for the same would be issued in a day or two. The conditions are that the university will follow the recently issued guidelines by the Supreme Court for private universities on land use, construction of university building, its staffing pattern and fund requirement. The Bill was passed in the Assembly on May 18, 2005 and was sent to the Governor for approval, who in turn, had sought some clarification from the government regarding the Bill. Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav and Urban Development Minister Azam Khan had met the Governor recently to put forward their point of view in this regard. The proposal for the University to be established in Rampur was mooted by Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Trust, Lucknow with Mr. Khan as its President. The Bill had become a bone of contention between the Uttar Pradesh government and the Governor with the ruling Samajwadi Party accusing Raj Bhawan of politicking over the issue. Mr. Khan had blamed the Governor for unnecessarily delaying the approval of Bill. -- PTI
