CHENNAI: Twenty girls of the tsunami-affected areas in Royapuram fishing harbour and Ernavoor will be potential mobile phone servicing providers in a month. They will be undergoing a diploma course in cell phone servicing sponsored by the Community Development Organisation Trust (C-DOT), a Royapuram based organisation and Institute of Electronics and Computers India. The course, which was inaugurated on Saturday, aimed at providing alternate livelihood for tsunami-affected persons. S.D. Rajendran, director of C-DOT, said the two-year-old organisation sponsored the diploma course, as it would provide immediate employment and help people rebuild their lives. Girls with an education qualification of 10th standard and Plus Two were chosen for the first batch and they will be motivated to become successful entrepreneurs, he added. M.A. Nazeer, course director of Institute of Electronics and Computers India, highlighted the potential employment opportunities for the trained persons with a minimum monthly earning of Rs. 10,000. He added that the candidates would be exposed to success stories in the field towards the end of the course. The course would also be conducted in Semmencheri and Ernavoor, where C-DOT has started community health care centres for tsunami-affected. Nalini Keshavaraj, manager,Tamil Nadu Resource Centre also participated.
