CHENNAI: The United Forum of Nanganallur Welfare Associations has submitted a memorandum to T.M. Anbarasan, Labour Welfare Minister and Alandur constituency MLA, urging him to provide better facilities for Nanganallur and Adambakkam. The forum, congratulated him for being elected to the assembly, and urged the completion of the municipality's road works, measures to streamline water distribution and immediate steps to arrest back flow of sewage water from Nilamangai Nagar pumping station. It has also sought construction of a check dam across Palar River basin near Palayaseevaram water head and restoration of Palar water supply to Alandur municipality. General secretary of the federation V. Rama Rao said the municipality has partnered the Alandur-Pallavaram water scheme. He also asked the minister to check on the feasibility of constructing a road over bridge near Thillai Ganga Nagar subway. He recalled that three subways in the local body had been submerged during the rains in October-December 2005 resulting in the inundation of the colonies of Nanganallur and Adambakkam. The Federation sought the intervention of the minister in setting up an authority to protect the water bodies of the State. Mr. Rao urged that the Abambakkam Lake be desilted to a depth of about 25 feet to ensure sufficient storage of water in case of excess rain. He wanted a Government Hospital to be set up in the municipality and added that the municipality lacked an arts college for women.
