MANGALORE: Students should choose careers they are interested in and come up in life, said P.A. Khader Kukkadi, educationist and president of Federation of Muslim Educational Institutions. Inaugurating an education information workshop for Beary students organised by Kendra Beary Sahitya Parishat in association with Teekays Foundation here on Sunday, Mr. Kukkadi said that only 20 per cent of the students got excellent results in qualifying examinations. The remaining should not think that they did not have a future, he said.
`Workshops beneficial'
Even those who were not academically brilliant could utilise various opportunities coming up in the liberalised economic set-up. Noting that one however needed to have detailed information about emerging career opportunities, he said workshops helped students to a great extent. Basheer Bykampady, former Deputy Mayor and vice-president of the Parishat, who presided over the function said despite greater emphasis on education among Muslims, parents were still confused on educational prospects of their children due to lack of information. There was a need to organise such workshops at every Muslim Jamaath level, he observed. Abdul Rahim Teekay, director of the Foundation who was the chief guest, said all concerned should strive to build a literate society by laying emphasis on education of girls. M.B. Abdul Rahiman, president of the parishat and P.A. Rahim, president of Bantwal unit, were present. Amina Mudasar of Career Guidance and Information Centre, Bangalore, was the resource person.
