Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: A cashier with a prominent vehicle dealer was arrested on Sunday by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) on charges of embezzlement and cheating to the tune of Rs. 35.7 lakh.

Vivekandan from Ramavaram was arrested by the CCB after they received a complaint from the management of VST Motors on Anna Salai.

According to the police, the management developed suspicion after the annual audit revealed that there was a cash shortage.

The accused, who had been reportedly embezzling cash for the past one year, had altered the records.

"We have recovered Rs. 1.5 lakh while the management seized two cars seized and Rs. 10 lakh from the accused," said an official.
